Journey Through Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is a city of Buddhist temples set against a backdrop of mountains and rice terraces. Situated about 700 kilometres from Bangkok along the Ping River, this once capital of the Lanna kingdom is both historic as it is charming. Monuments and wats sit alongside noodle shops and markets along Chiang Mai's smaller lanes. The province of Chiang Mai is home to khon meuang ( People of the principality) and numerous hill tribes whose culture and customs make northern Thailand distinct from that of central and southern Thailand and whose superb craftmanship is well-known.
